Muziek Talent Express: a web application for music education

About the project

Aslan Muziekcentrum is an award-winning centre for music education bringing music from around the world to classrooms in Amsterdam and beyond. In 2012, I started collaborating with Aslan to build a digital counterpart to their “Muziek Talent Express” offering for continuous music education on primary schools. Together with the team, we set out to build out their original concept of an interface centered around a globe as an entry point for music from around the world.

The web application enables educators to log in to same app from any computer. could be use intended for use on a ‘smartboard’ or ‘digiboard’, an novelty that was being introduced into classrooms at the time.

Together with creative designer and developer Bas Snabilie, I built a prototype that was used in an initial pilot phase with a small group of educators. After a promising pilot phase, we began working on a stable version, consulted by Collabo, an Amsterdam-based agency specializing in interactive applications.

In 2016, Collabo took over development of the application and created the version currently in use.

My responsibilities

As project lead and product owner, I was responsible for translating the project vision into a complete set of requirements, and coordinating the design and development efforts. I gathered feedback from the team at Aslan after each iteration and worked with the designer and developer to implement all planned features.

For the first stable version, I helped prepare the media resources sourced from the educational material and supported the educators as they were preparing the content to be used by teachers.
