This is my /now page, which I’ll try to update regularly with the things that I am focused on at this moment.
In pursuit of new opportunities after completing a PM bootcamp
A little over a month ago, I finished a three-month Product Management bootcamp at the Digitale Leute School and received my certificate. It has been a great experience, and it was sad to say goodbye to all the great people in our batch after such an intensive period. Luckily, we were able to set up a weekly standup to stay in touch, share experiences and support each other.
Besides looking at product roles at software companies, I am rediscovering my digital humanities roots and pursuing an exciting opportunity at an international archival project with an important mission.
Continuing my rural community history project
As part of the bootcamp, I worked on a product case for a participative platform to enable rural communities to collect and preserve village stories and digitized historical artifacts. I am currently researching options to build out this concept. This involves drafting a first estimate of initial development and finding partners for potential collaboration and funding.
To prepare for the technical decisions ahead, I have been exploring graph database solutions. These will play an important role in creating connections between the individual subjects or entities described or mentioned in the collected stories – events, locations, individuals and organizations – in the platform.
Running and cycling
Since a few weeks, I have started to train for a marathon I’m hoping to run in 3-4 months. I do this by alternating running and cycling. The great part is that the long summer days allow me to jump on my bike after 20:00h at night and still come home before sundown.
I would like to believe that this is not a midlife-crisis thing: after all, in my early twenties, I already ran several half-marathons and was an active member of a wonderful student running association – until a knee injury forced me to take a break. After moving to Brandenburg three years ago, I figured that the wide open spaces around our house offered all sorts of opportunities to get back into the swing of things , and even bought a ticket for the Hamburg marathon. This time around, though, I was knocked down by a lower back injury and then, to top it off, a Covid-19 infection.
This year though, I turned 42, so I thought it would be a nice gift to myself to complete a 42km run this year. In good health, and without injuring myself in the process. Fingers crossed!
